Donated defibrillators boost police response for heart emergencies

The Police Service received a donation of 20 automatic external defibrillators, AEDs for short, this week from the Cayman Heart Fund. An AED is a portable device that when hooked up to someone in a cardiac emergency, can diagnose a heart attack based on the rhythm of the heart and treat them with “defibrillation,” an electrical shock to return the heart to a normal rhythm. Discovery Day 5K Walk/Run fundraiser

​The Cayman Heart Fund on Monday, May 16, at 7 a.m. is hosting its 9th annual Discovery Day 5K Walk/Run fundraiser. The run will take place at Camana Bay near the Audi dealership. Check-in begins at 6:15 a.m. Registration is available on CaymanActive.com. You may also register and collect your t-shirt on Saturday, May 14, at the Observation Tower in Camana Bay from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The entry fee is $25 for adults and $10 for children. The first 275 to enter will get a t-shirt....

Heart surgery patient supports ambulance appeal

Former Cayman 27 reporter Kevin Watler, who has recently recovered from open heart surgery, is urging everyone to support the appeal to buy a new ambulance for the Cayman Islands. Kevin is a member of Cayman Heart Fund which is running the appeal and is the chosen charity of the 2016 Deputy Governor’s 5K Challenge. DG 5K funds to help ambulance fundraiser
